The Hammond Skyhawks will challenge the Dreher Blue Devils at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hammond has five straight wins, Dreher has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Hammond sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over Heathwood Hall Episcopal.

Ava Sapp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ava Miller was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Barrett Brazell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Dreher fell victim to Airport and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 13-0.
Dreher's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Hammond, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Hammond's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Skyhawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dreher, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hammond continue to outrun the ball?
