The Beatrice Orangemen will face off against the Hastings Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Beatrice was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lincoln Northwest on Friday. Beatrice was the clear victor by a 15-3 margin over Lincoln Northwest. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Orangemen as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Kale Koch made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Beatrice let Ty Weichel and Austin Baldwin run wild. Weichel went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Baldwin scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those five RBI gave Weichel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrent Roeder, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Beatrice kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Hastings won against York on Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Hastings put the hurt on Gretna with a sharp 12-6 win.
Eli Schneider looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Chance Vertin was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Brody Dreher was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Hastings' victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Beatrice, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Beatrice came out on top in a nail-biter against Hastings when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Does Beatrice have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hastings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
