After flying high against the Cholla Chargers last Tuesday, the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks came back down to earth. Ironwood Ridge took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Catalina Foothills on Wednesday. Ironwood Ridge has struggled against Catalina Foothills recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Nighthawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Myla Elslager, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Saucedo, who scored 13 points along with seven steals.
Catalina Foothills found their leader in underclassman Alessandra Egginton, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Egginton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayanna Chief, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Ironwood Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Catalina Foothills, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-9.
Ironwood Ridge will head out on the road to square off against Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Ironwood Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday. As for Catalina Foothills, they will head out on the road to face off against Cholla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cholla is coming into the match with eight straight losses at home, meaning Catalina Foothills will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
