The St. Stephens Indians entered their tilt with the Maiden Blue Devils with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. St. Stephens came out on top against Maiden by a score of 54-47 on Tuesday. Given St. Stephens' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Maiden is ranked 365th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading St. Stephens to victory were Aubrey Gibbs and Molli Harris. Gibbs scored 17 points along with five steals, while Harris scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and eight steals. The contest was Harris' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Kennedy Blevins was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Maiden's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Khiara Culliver, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Culliver set a new season high mark in steals with four. The team also got some help courtesy of Willow Bass, who scored 14 points.
St. Stephens pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Maiden, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
St. Stephens will be home for the holidays to greet West Iredell at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maiden won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Burns at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th.
