It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Clay-Chalkville Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They secured a 17-13 W over the Spartans. Clay-Chalkville's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
When it comes to explaining why Mountain Brook lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cole Gamble. Despite the final result, he rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown. Gamble hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for seven straight games.
Clay-Chalkville has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 11-0 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.3 points per game. As for Mountain Brook, their defeat ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-4.
Clay-Chalkville will take on Muscle Shoals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Muscle Shoals' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matches. Mountain Brook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
