The Le Grand Bulldogs will face off against the Firebaugh Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Le Grand has ten straight wins, Firebaugh has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Firebaugh's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Le Grand hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand Waterford a 19-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Bulldogs have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Avila made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Makayla Leyva was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Aaliyah Ceja was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Le Grand kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Firebaugh came up short against Avenal on Friday, falling 14-2. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly 12 runs.
Le Grand pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Firebaugh, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
Le Grand took their victory against Firebaugh in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
