Harding and Bridgeport Central are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Harding Presidents will head out on the road to square off against the Bridgeport Central Hilltoppers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Harding is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Harding pushed their score all the way to 64 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Immaculate by a score of 66-64. Harding has struggled against Immaculate recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Harding's loss came about despite a quality game from Craig Chandler, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Jamaar Wright Jr., who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Harding were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Bridgeport Central's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 63-46 bruising from Stamford. While losing is never fun, Bridgeport Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Stamford is ranked 13th).
Harding has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Bridgeport Central's record is now 1-5.
Harding came up short against Bridgeport Central in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 52-48. Can Harding avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
