Saugus has gone a perfect 9-0 against Castaic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The two teams, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field at 3:15 p.m. Saugus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Saugus' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 25-0 margin over Golden Valley. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Centurions considering their one-run performance the game before.
Hailey Cox and Riley Nelson dominated on the mound. Cox pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Nelson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nelson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Amelia Johnson was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Arguello, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Saugus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, Castaic hadn't done well against Canyon recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Thursday. The Coyotes walked away with a 4-0 win over the Cowboys.
Tatum McAfee made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. McAfee was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other pitching news, Katelyn Eppenbaugh looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
McAfee wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Charlotte Wheeler, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Rylie Sitler also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Saugus' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Castaic, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Saugus hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Castaic struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Saugus skirted past Castaic 3-1 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Centurions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Coyotes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
