The Magdalena Steers will face off against the Cimarron Rams at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Magdalena has nine straight wins, Cimarron has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Magdalena got the win against Logan by a conclusive 15-2. Considering the Steers have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Shane Montoya made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ayden Herschbach was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Joseph Zamora, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Magdalena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cimarron came up short against Grady on Friday and fell 12-7.
Like Magdalena, Cimarron also got a great game from a two-way player: Andrew Gonzales. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Gonzales has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Cimarron is 5-2 when Gonzales posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Orion Ledoux made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Ethan Eppler was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Magdalena pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Cimarron, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Magdalena has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cimarron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
