Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Piedmont Hills

Piedmont Hills barely beat Milpitas the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Piedmont Hills Pirates put the hurt on the Milpitas Trojans with a sharp 15-2 victory on Tuesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Isabella Flores made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Piedmont Hills got a big performance out of Isabella Paskert, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Leilani Ortiz, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Piedmont Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win (which was Piedmont Hills' fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.5 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Milpitas, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Piedmont Hills will face off against Oak Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Milpitas, they will challenge Sequoia at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Milpitas has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
