The Bowie Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Estacado Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bowie will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 913th, while Estacado is ranked 180th).
Bowie pushed their score all the way to 42 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 66-42 defeat at the hands of Riverside. It was the first time this season that Bowie let down their fans at home.
Meanwhile, Estacado put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They didn't even let Lake View onto the board and left with a 63-0 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Estacado.
Estacado's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dj Johnson, who threw for 104 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. Estacado also got a significant boost from James Bozeman, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 95 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Estacado's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Mehki Williams and Kei?sean Harris who racked up six sacks between them.
Riverside's victory bumped their season record to 8-2 while Bowie's loss dropped theirs to 7-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Bowie has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 236.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Estacado struggles in that department as they've been even better at 282.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
