DeMatha has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
DeMatha is ranked highly in their home state, and on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Lions. The match between DeMatha and the Lions wasn't particularly close, with the Stags falling 76-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, DeMatha got a solid performance out of Jacob Wallace, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Wallace is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek (Beau) Daniels, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and six blocks.
Meanwhile, Our Lady of Good Counsel's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 75-49 defeat at the hands of Bishop Ireton. While losing is never fun, Our Lady of Good Counsel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 88th in Maryland, while the Cardinals are ranked 11th in Virginia).
DeMatha's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-19.
Everything came up roses for DeMatha against the Falcons in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 75-43 victory. With DeMatha ahead 51-16 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
