After a string of four wins, the Jacksonville Golden Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Anniston by a score of 46-44. Jacksonville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Anniston apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
Jacksonville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aaron Nixon, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Nixon's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquan Ervin, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Jacksonville's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Anniston, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
Jacksonville and Decatur will round out the year against one another at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday at. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Decatur is ranked 62nd, while Jacksonville is ranked 45th). Anniston will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Talladega at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
