The North Daviess Cougars will square off against the Orleans Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (North Daviess 2.3, Orleans 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
North Daviess is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Loogootee get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Orleans). They blew past Shoals 23-2 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Cooper and Ella Owens were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Cooper tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Meanwhile, Owens tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cooper went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Owens went 3-for-4 with three runs. That's the most runs Owens has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Cambree Cline was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lilah Cheatham was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Orleans always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
North Daviess is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Orleans, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-6.
North Daviess couldn't quite finish off Orleans when the teams last played on May 12th and fell 6-4. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
