United and Conemaugh Valley are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Lions will square off against the Blue Jays at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. United is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
United came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 10-3 to Conemaugh Township. The Lions have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
United saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dmitri Worthington, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Conemaugh Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Windber 8-7. The game was the first time the Blue Jays have beaten the Ramblers on their field since March 30, 2021.
Jeremy Dietz made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 8.1 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Heinlein, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. George Weimer was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Conemaugh Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
United's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Conemaugh Valley, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-8 record.
United was able to grind out a solid victory over Conemaugh Valley in their previous matchup back in April, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
