Greenville extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They came up short against the Stearns Minutemen, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Minutemen this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-4 defeat on May 5th.
Greenville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Mason, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That hit was Mason's first of the season.
As for Stearns, they now have a winning record of 7-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the match before.
On Stearns' side, Brady Brooker and Wiley Ward made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Brooker pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ward pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brooker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Ward went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Stearns is undefeated when Brooker posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Emerson Michaud was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben Waite, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenville will challenge Penquis Valley at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Stearns, they will take on Lee Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
