The Herriman Mustangs are ranked highly in their home state, and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Mater Dei Monarchs. Herriman took a 81-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mater Dei. Herriman's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Herriman's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlo Mulford, who scored 15 points along with nine assists. That's the first time this season that Mulford posted eight or more assists. Ike Palmer was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Herriman's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Mater Dei, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Herriman will look to defend their home court on Friday against Westlake at 7:00 p.m. Westlake has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 339 points over their last five matchups. Mater Dei is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Orange Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Orange Lutheran has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
