Basketball Recap: Gaston Day Falls Despite Big Games from Deshawn Coulter and Dylan Bradley

Gaston Day lost against Concord Academy back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Gaston Day Spartans fell 76-64 to the Concord Academy Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Eagles are ranked fifth).

Gaston Day's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Dylan Bradley, who posted 22 points and six boards, and Deshawn Coulter, who put up 17 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Bradley has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Todd, who earned eight points.

Concord Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Benham, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. Lincoln Raper was another key player, putting up 15 points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Gaston Day's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-7. As for Concord Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season.

Gaston Day has already played their next matchup, a 71-52 defeat against Gaston Christian on the 24th. As for Concord Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-50 victory against Westminster Catawba Christian on the 23rd.
