The Wayne Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Aquinas Institute Little Irish at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wayne is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Wayne nor Greece Odyssey made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Leopards with a sharp 6-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.
Myia Eskander made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Eskander was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jessy Newmyer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Sophie Armstrong also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Wayne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.6.
Meanwhile, Aquinas Institute was able to grind out a solid victory over Northstar Christian Academy on Monday, taking the game 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Little Irish in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won four in a row.
Like Wayne, Aquinas Institute also got a great game from a two-way player: Kendall Buttles. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Buttles has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Riley Madigan was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Delaney Buttles was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.
Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Aquinas Institute, their record now sits at 6-3.
Wayne skirted past Aquinas Institute 14-12 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
