Football Recap: Acalanes Extends Winning Streak to Three

Acalanes extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 3-0. They walked away with a 42-35 win over the St. Ignatius College Preparatory Wildcats. 42 seems to be a good number for the Dons as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Acalanes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Winkles led the charge by throwing for 335 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also punching in two TDs on the ground. That's the most rushing touchdowns Winkles has posted since back in November of 2024. Grant Ricker made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Acalanes didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ricker, Illias Kaplanes-Jones, and Grant Condy picked up one apiece. Ricker got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

As for St. Ignatius College Preparatory, they now have a losing record of 1-2. They were up 21-7 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Tribolet, who rushed for 114 yards and one score, and also picked up 51 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Zui Shelton, who picked up 116 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Coming up, Acalanes is taking a road trip to challenge College Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Ignatius College Preparatory, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Archbishop Mitty at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. The matchup will give the Wildcats their first taste of in-conference action this season.
