Baseball Recap: Ayersville Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Ayersville had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 8-12 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the North Central Eagles a 1-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pilots have posted since April 13, 2024.

As for North Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. The shutout was out of character for they seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

For North Central's part, Jackson Poynter spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Poynter also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Eagles are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Briggs Fiser made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Coincidentally, Ayersville and North Central will both be playing Hilltop the next time they take the field. The Pilots will head out to face the Cadets at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Eagles will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
