Ramona is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while San Marcos is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Ramona Bulldogs will take on the San Marcos Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ramona will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 690th, while San Marcos is ranked 189th).
Last Saturday, Ramona came up short against Valley Christian and fell 56-48.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Chase Newman, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Penner, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, San Marcos didn't have too much trouble with Del Norte on the road on Friday as they won 64-46.
San Marcos' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jalen Williams, who scored 22 points. Another player making a difference was Richie Ramirez, who scored 14 points along with six steals and five assists.
Ramona has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for San Marcos, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Wednesday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Ramona have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 40.5% of their threes per game. However, it's not like San Marcos struggles in that department as they've nailed 45.1% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Ramona was dealt a bruising 80-44 defeat at the hands of San Marcos in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Thankfully for Ramona, Devon Arlington (who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
