8A District 8 recap October 8, 2013
Central was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Vero Beach. The Cobras came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 40 last week.
Treasure Coast scaled the state rankings by moving to 140 from 191 this week, the biggest jump in 8A District 8. Treasure Coast climbed the ranks as a result of topping Centennial 33-7.
The Indians' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dalton Stokes threw for 138 and 1 touchdown and Jason pierre had 35 yards receiving. On the ground pierre chipped in 117 yards. Will Dawkins helped Vero Beach's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 33 yards.
Pierre was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 117 yards on 19 carries as Vero Beach lost to Central. Teammate Stokes added to the ground attack by rushing for 31 yards.
Vero Beach's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Indians feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Stokes has thrown for 1,052 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while pierre has 14 catches for 285 yards.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Josh Shaffer's team beat Lenny Jankowski's team 27-21. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Cobras.
