For the first time this season, Skyridge will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will take on the Pleasant Grove Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Skyridge comes in on three and Pleasant Grove on eight.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Skyridge and Springville had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Falcons walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Red Devils last Thursday.
Max Johanson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Cohen Plewe was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Rip Roberts, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Skyridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pleasant Grove). They skirted past Riverton 12-10. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this match were averaging 2.8 runs allowed.
Like Skyridge, Pleasant Grove also got a great game from a two-way player: Mason Hawk Henry. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Henry posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Kale Dunn was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. R.J. Wilson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Pleasant Grove pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Skyridge, their record now sits at 7-2.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Skyridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Skyridge couldn't quite get it done against Pleasant Grove when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
