The Miramonte Matadors will face off against the Washington Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Miramonte will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Miramonte made easy work of Saint Mary's and carried off a 13-2 win. Considering the Matadors have won three matchups by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Abby Warren made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Miramonte let Maddie McKim and Gianna Granzella run wild. McKim went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Granzella scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs McKim has posted since back in May of 2024. Julia Quinn-Ferguson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Miramonte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Washington was able to grind out a solid victory over Concord on Thursday, taking the game 5-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.
Ynez Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.1 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Ariel Guerra and Angelica Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Guerra scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Sanchez scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Sanchez also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Machuca, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.
Miramonte now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Washington, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Miramonte has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Miramonte couldn't quite finish off Washington when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 14-12. Will Miramonte have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
