After flying high against A.C. Reynolds on Wednesday, Polk County came back down to earth. The Wolverines took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Henderson Falcons on Thursday. The Wolverines have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Polk County started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.
Akeela Cunningham paced Polk County's offense, picking up 15 kills. Cunningham got some help from Abby Lewis and her 18 assists. Lewis was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.
West Henderson found their leader in sophomore Joelie Humiston, who had 13 digs and four assists.
Having lost for the first time this season, Polk County fell to 2-1. As for West Henderson, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
