The Angleton Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the La Porte Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Angleton 1.8, La Porte 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
La Porte will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Angleton extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Wildcats came out on top against Ball by a score of 4-1.
Rylee Church made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
Church wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ayleen Cervantes, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Cervantes also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, La Porte was not the first on the board last Tuesday, but they got there more often. They blew past Santa Fe 12-2. Considering the Bulldogs have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Angleton, La Porte also got a great game from a two-way player: Aaliyah Maldonado. She tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Maldonado was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kynlee Arachiga, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Jaellynn Ordonez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
La Porte has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Angleton, their record now sits at 13-2.
Angleton was able to grind out a solid victory over La Porte when the teams last played back in March, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
