Pioneer had a senior duo take command as Edward Chavez scored 17 points along with four steals and Julian Valdez scored 12 points along with four steals. Chavez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Maldonado, who scored nine points along with six assists.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-21. As for Pioneer, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-12 record this season.
