One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Welcome
Magee not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Newton in every quarter. Everything went Magee's way against Newton as it secured a 50 - 7 win. Magee found its leader in an underclassman: Chandler Pittman earned one touchdown and 93 yards rushing the ball, which was enough to make him one of the team's best players. Thanks to its success, Magee cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 25th spot.
Can't Touch This
Velma Jackson got a 30 - 6 win over Leake Central last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Antavious Willis. Willis ran for 226 yards and also punched in three touchdowns. That performance landed Willis among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between Brandon (2nd in the power rankings) and Northwest Rankin (4th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Brandon blew past Northwest Rankin 34 - 13. 34 is shaping up to be Brandon's lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its win over Tupelo the game before.
Movin on Up
Vicksburg brought the heat last game after its low-scoring effort (six points) in the match before. It earned a pretty comfortable 45 - 28 victory over Columbus. Senior Tacarie Stewart deserves a lot of the credit as he rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns. The success catapulted Vicksburg 14 spots up the power rankings, enough to make it the biggest riser of the week.
