The Elgin Owls put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Duncan 48-7 on the road. Given Elgin's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Duncan is ranked 178th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matthew Lund was his usual excellent self, rushing for 139 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Lund was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards. cordae richie made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Elgin's win was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Duncan and 1-8 Ardmore (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.2% over those games). As for Duncan, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elgin will take on MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. MacArthur is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Duncan, they will be playing at home against El Reno at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
