It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Burlington Wildcats ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past Iola with a 58-53 victory. The victory was just what Burlington needed coming off of a 65-37 defeat in their prior contest.
Iola's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cortland Carson, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. Carson scored a full 37.7% of Iola's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Landon Weide, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Burlington's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Iola, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Burlington has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Wellsville at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Wellsville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Burlington likes a good challenge. Iola's road trip will continue as they head out to face Prairie View at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th.
