The Cabrillo Conquistadores lost against the Atascadero Greyhounds back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Cabrillo took a serious blow against Atascadero, falling 55-13. Cabrillo was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
When it comes to explaining why Cabrillo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Blake Gregory. Despite the final result, he picked up 191 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Gregory was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 62 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Mattis, who threw for 375 yards and two touchdowns.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Atascadero to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kane Cooks, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 118 yards and a touchdown on only ten passes. Cooks is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Atascadero also got a significant boost from Mateo Cano, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.
Cabrillo's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Atascadero, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cabrillo will take on Morro Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Morro Bay is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Atascadero, they will be playing at home against Pioneer Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
