On Friday, The Sierra Chieftains faced the Fresno Christian Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sierra took a 48-34 bruising from Fresno Christian. Sierra has struggled against Fresno Christian recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Sierra's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Tanner Forrester, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Aaron Irvine, who rushed for 12 yards and a touchdown.
Fresno Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Logan Stotts led the charge by throwing for 309 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Stotts is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last eight games he's played. Joshua Kubota was another key contributor, picking up 210 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Sierra now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Fresno Christian, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Sierra will head out on the road to face off against Alpaugh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alpaugh is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Fresno Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Orcutt Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Orcutt Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
