Basketball Recap: Betsy Layne Extends Winning Streak to Two

Floyd Central came into Friday's match looking for another win against Betsy Layne, but Cameron Pente wouldn't allow it. The Betsy Layne Bobcats narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Floyd Central Jaguars 80-77 thanks in part to Pente, who went 7 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 34 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Betsy Layne's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Allen, who posted ten points and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals.

Floyd Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Spriggs, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 22 points. Another player making a difference was Lucas Howard, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Betsy Layne and bumps their season record up to 4-2. As for Floyd Central, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-1.

Betsy Layne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 77-51 win against Leslie County on the 16th. As for Floyd Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-49 victory against Rowan County on the 14th.
