Softball Recap: Westwood Has No Trouble Against Hackensack

While Westwood didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Hackensack Comets with a sharp 11-1 win on Saturday. The game marked the Cardinals' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Tina Celenza made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Celenza was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other pitching news, Ella Ianni tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ashley Pontillo, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Grace O'Dell was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs and two doubles.

Westwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hackensack only managed five hits.

Westwood's record is now 6-4. As for Hackensack, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Looking ahead, Westwood will welcome River Dell at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Hackensack, they will head out to take on Cliffside Park at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
