The Pleasant Grove Vikings had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Salem Hills and snuck past 50-48. For Pleasant Grove, this counts as revenge for the 58-46 defeat Salem Hills walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2015.
Pleasant Grove can attribute much of their success to Amber Cook, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tabi Clark, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds.
Salem Hills' loss came despite strong showings from Reagan Beck and Brooke Warren. Beck scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds, while Warren scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds. Warren scored a full 27.1% of Salem Hills' points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Hattie Parkinson was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Pleasant Grove's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Salem Hills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pleasant Grove will take on Wasatch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wasatch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Salem Hills, they will head out on the road to face off against Payson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
