The Golden Demons will head out on the road to challenge the Cherokee Trail Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Golden has three straight wins, Cherokee Trail has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Golden posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They breezed by Alameda at home to the tune of 81-10. Given Golden's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Alameda is ranked 330th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Golden's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Flambures, who scored 11 points along with eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Flambures has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keiton Abeyta, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Cherokee Trail suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Smoky Hill by a score of 55-53.
Golden's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.3 points. As for Cherokee Trail, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Golden came up short against Cherokee Trail in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 72-61. Thankfully for Golden, Keean Lloyd (who scored 15 points along with eight assists and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
