Magdalena is on an eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Logan is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Steers will host the Longhorns at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Magdalena made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Melrose, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Steers were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Buffaloes on Wednesday.
Joseph Zamora was a standout: he scored two runs while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Stuteville, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Magdalena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Melrose only posted a batting average of .118.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Logan made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cimarron on Monday. The Longhorns put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 11-3 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Longhorns' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Aydin Kotara and Kale Griffiths were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kotara struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Griffiths tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kotara has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kotara scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Griffiths scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Hayden Bruhn and Devin Kotara did most of the damage at the plate: Bruhn went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Devin scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Kotara has become a key player for Logan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Bill DeLuca was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Magdalena's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Logan, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
