Baseball Recap: Hampshire Wins Going Away Against Belvidere

Hampshire won the last time they faced Belvidere and things went their way on Friday too. Hampshire blew past Belvidere 25-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Whip-Purs.

Wilson Wemhoff made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other pitching news, Nathan Wians looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Hampshire got a massive performance out of Ari Fivelson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Fivelson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christopher Whetstone Jr, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Hampshire always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belvidere only posted an OBP of .389.

Hampshire's record is now 2-0. As for Belvidere, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Hampshire will look to defend their home field on Monday against Harvest Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. As for Belvidere, they will venture away from home to square off against North Boone at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
