Dekaney is 2-7 against Spring since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Dekaney Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Spring Lions at 7:00 p.m. Dekaney is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Dekaney got themselves on the board against Aldine, but Aldine never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mustangs 72-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Dekaney, who have now won three matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dekaney to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dylan Jones, who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Jones' longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards. Samaritan Cunningham also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Spring had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past MacArthur, posting a 51-0 win on the road. Given Spring's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 324th, while MacArthur is ranked 861st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ahran Ogbor continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 101 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also throwing for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Tre?Sean Cunningham made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Their wins bumped Dekaney to 5-2 and Spring to 4-3.
Dekaney didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Spring in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 28-23 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dekaney since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
