Bear River is a perfect 4-0 against Stansbury since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bears will venture away from home to take on the Stallions at 3:00 p.m. Bear River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Bear River is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Ridgeline, who was ranked 19th at the time (Bear River was ranked tenth). The Bears fell just short of the Riverhawks by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The game marked the Bears' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Stephen Starnes and Chipper Hawes did some serious damage despite the final result: Starnes went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Hawes went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ethan Higgs, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Stansbury came up short against Bear River on Tuesday and fell 11-6. The Stallions haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Stansbury saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kai Astill, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Tyler Hadlock was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Stansbury's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Bear River, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 13-2.
Stansbury's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Bear River has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Stansbury, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Bear River keep running through batters, or will the Stallions buck the trend?
Bear River was able to grind out a solid win over Stansbury in their previous matchup on Tuesday, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
