After losing to the Childress Bobcats the last time they met, the Floydada Whirlwinds decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Floydada walked away with a 50-40 win over Childress on Saturday. Given Floydada's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Childress is ranked 705th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Childress' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clarissa Gamboa, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Gamboa is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshlynn Roark, who scored ten points.
Floydada is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Childress, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Floydada's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hale Center at 6:15 p.m. on December 12th. As for Childress, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Slaton at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Slaton's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so Childress' offense will have their work cut out for Childress.
