Oak Glen is 1-9 against Weir since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Oak Glen Golden Bears will look to defend their home court against the Weir Red Riders at 7:30 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Oak Glen and four for Weir.
Oak Glen pushed their score all the way to 59 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 70-59 to Brooke, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Despite the loss, Oak Glen saw an underclassman step up: A J Ramgeet scored 25 points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Evans, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Weir pushed their score all the way to 59 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 76-59 bruising from Williamstown. While losing is never fun, Weir can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 549th, while Williamstown is ranked 11th).
Weir's loss came about despite a quality game from Colin Cross, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds. That was a full 47.5% of Weir's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dashawd Smith, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Oak Glen has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Weir, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Oak Glen have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Weir, though, as they've been averaging only 7.1 threes per game. Given Oak Glen's sizeable advantage in that area, Weir will need to find a way to close that gap.
Oak Glen might still be hurting after the 70-50 defeat they got from Weir in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cross, who scored 35 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Now that Oak Glen knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
