The Banning Pilots will head out on the road to face off against the Carson Colts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Banning will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Carson is ranked 200th).
Last Friday, Banning suffered a tough 42-20 loss at the hands of San Pedro. Banning was down 35-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite their defeat, Banning saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Steven Perez, who picked up 79 receiving yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Guerrero, who threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Carson unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 27-7 walloping at the hands of Gardena. Having soared to a lofty 48 points in the game before, Carson couldn't push the score so high this time.
Carson's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kameryn Hurst, who rushed for 128 yards on only nine carries.
Banning now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Carson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-1.
Everything went Banning's way against Carson when the teams last played back in September of 2022 as Banning made off with a 40-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Banning since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
