Softball Recap: Wagner's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Wagner brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They put the hurt on the Elkton/Lake Benton Elks with a sharp 21-5 win on Saturday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Red Raiders as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Lydia Yost and Bella Kotab made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Yost pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kotab tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Yost has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Yost went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Kotab scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. That's the most hits Yost has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Wagner let Libby Kotab and Brooklin Neilsen run wild. Kotab scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Neilsen scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Shealee Turner was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Wagner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .839. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Wagner's win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Wagner will challenge Beresford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Elkton/Lake Benton, they will face off against Oldham-Ramona/R at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rutland have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Elks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
