The Dixie County Bears will face off against the Fort White Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dixie County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Dixie County's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Jefferson County 24-0. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
Kyan Cooper made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Cooper was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Joel Lord and Talon Grider did most of the damage at the plate: Lord got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Grider went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Gray Wampler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Dixie County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .630. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Fort White and Chiefland had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Fort White came up short against Chiefland on Thursday, falling 16-6.
Mathew Pitts made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Clyatt, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Dixie County's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Fort White, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
Fort White's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dixie County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .499. It's a different story for Fort White, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Dixie County's hitters?
Everything went Dixie County's way against Fort White in their previous meeting back in February, as Dixie County made off with a 15-3 victory. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
