The Webber Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 12th straight loss. They took a 41-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wayne City. Webber was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wayne City apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chloe King, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. King scored a full 37.8% of Webber's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Forestall, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Greenlea Vaughan was the offensive standout of the match as she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. The match was her fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Webber's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-12. As for Wayne City, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
Webber will head out on the road to face off against Carmi-White County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Carmi-White County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Webber in Illinois (Carmi-White County is ranked 170th, while Webber is ranked 652nd). Wayne City won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Woodlawn at 7:30 p.m. on January 3rd. Hopefully Woodlawn focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Thursday.
