Rolling Meadows hasn't had much luck against Elk Grove recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mustangs will challenge the Grenadiers at 4:45 p.m. Rolling Meadows has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rolling Meadows is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Hersey on Wednesday. They lost 14-2 to the Huskies.
Ashlyn Ferguson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season. Caylee Del Boccio was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Elk Grove came out on top against Wheeling on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run third inning. The Grenadiers were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Wildcats. 15 seems to be a good number for the Grenadiers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Bella Andrade made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Andrade was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Breana Hicks and Kaitlin Wirtz did most of the damage at the plate: Hicks went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Wirtz went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Wirtz has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hannah Kugelberg, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Elk Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wheeling only posted an OBP of .333.
Elk Grove has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Rolling Meadows, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
Rolling Meadows came up short against Elk Grove in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 7-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
