The Overton Wolverines came tearing into Wednesday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Melrose with points to spare, taking the game 57-39. For Overton, this counts as revenge for the 42-31 defeat Melrose walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2017.
Overton found their leader in underclassman Kierra Baldwin, who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Nia Smith, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Overton's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Melrose, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Overton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Power Center Academy at 5:30 p.m. on December 21st. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Power Center Academy: 26, Overton: 24.5) so any points scored will be well earned. Melrose will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kirby at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Kirby has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 16.
