Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Vikings vs. Norwin Knights

The Central Catholic Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Norwin Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Vikings fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They blew past Shaler Area 9-1 last Tuesday.

CJ Proch and Josh McFadden were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Proch tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, McFadden pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Proch went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while McFadden went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave Proch a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Nate O'Leary looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chris Hazel, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI. Landon Greene was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Central Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shaler Area only posted a batting average of .000.

Meanwhile, Norwin had just enough and edged out Fox Chapel 4-3 on Thursday.

Everything went Central Catholic's way against Norwin when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Central Catholic made off with an 11-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
